Hi again, Judy! ;)
The installed Key is the OEM_SLP Key for a Hewlett-Packard machine - which cannot be activated in the 'normal way',and is locked to work only on appropriate HP machines.
You machine is a Dell - built a year before Windows 7 was released, and which cannot therefore support an OEM_SLP Key for Windows 7.
Does what shows of the Key in the report match the Key you're inputting? If so - where did you get this Key from? If you paid for it, you were ripped off!

ya, luckily someone gave this key to me with the disc so I thought the two went together but I guess not. The disc for windows 7 is for a dell machine so at least that matches up. So, what can I do as far as activation goes? I'm I out of luck for activating my genuine Windows 7?Sunday, May 3, 2015 9:29 PM

You need a genuine Key for Windows 7 - just the disk is no use at all.
The disk itself would work - but only on a Dell machine that had shipped with Windows 7 pre-installed would it activate.
Do you have an authentic Windows 7 Key? If not, you'll have to either reinstall Vista, or purchase a Windows 7 OEM System Builder license (which I wouldn't recommend on a machine this old, sice when the machine dies, so would the license)

Would it make a difference if I called the Volume licensing activation center?Sunday, May 3, 2015 10:52 PM

They'd tell you the same things I have - possibly little less tactfully! - but you can try, if you like.
