Confused, okay it goes like this... RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have had my emachine pc for almost 2 years now, in the first 3 months the hard drive died, they came and they changed it for me, so i have since then had so many viruses on my pc, and have had to format it, and clean it up, i am sick to death of xp, anyhow i have since moved house in the past 2 years, and the last time i formatted the pc was over a year ago. So the windows cd packet is gone, the actual cds for the emachine xp home edition i have been using this weekend as i have had so many viruses again on the pc, that i have had to format the pc, now the back of the tower as the authentic numbers and letters, as the instructions book on the back, which is a green booklet says this...

The certificate of Authenticity label as been removed by your PC manufacturer and should be attached to your PC.

Well there is one, and an hour ago i formatted the pc, tried to add the authentic label info and NOPE, it will not allow me to autheticate it, err why not?

So xp people if you can help me i would be very grateful, as i am confused to hell on what i am suppose to do, its the last time i buy a computer from PCWORLD.

They were of no help, if any help whatsoever anyhow.

So is there a number i can ring, a UK number and get this sorted out, or can i do this myself on the pc, why wont it accept my authentic number, its a mystery to me for sure!!!

  • HelenUK,

Start the activation process by clicking Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Activate Windows.

If you do not have this menu choice, click Start>Run, then type %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /A into the Run box and click OK.

If the Activation process then begins, good.  Continue with the automated online activation.  If online activation refuses your attempt, choose the option to phone in and do a telephone activation.  When you phone in, you will first get another automated system.  If this system cannot get you activated, it will ask if you want to speak with a live activation rep.  Do so, and when you speak with the rep they will get you activated.

If the Activation process does NOT begin, then post back here for more help.
