Changing chords on beats rather than bars? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi - nice program!

Is it possible to change the chord within a bar, or split a bar?

I'm thinking of the Yamaha QY70 arranger which allows you to change chord every beat if you wish, which is very helpful.

Also, is there a way to use slash chords so that the bass would stay put while the chords above it change?

    Many thanks

Thanks!  Positive feedback is always good times. :)

Yes, just click on the bar and type whatever chord you like, or click the little arrow at the side of each measure to see a list of "suggested" chords.  If you make a change that you want to be "permanent", even when you change the "happy" and "jazzy" sliders, be sure to "lock" the new chord using the drop-down menu you get when you click the arrow.

You can change the "chords per bar" setting from "1" to "2", which will split *all* bars.  Unfortunately, there's no way to split an individual bar.

Yep, just type your slash chord in after clicking on the bar.  Again, you probably want to "lock" the chord after making a manual change so Songsmith doesn't change it when you move the sliders around.

    Have fun!
