Has anyone discussed the idea of all new posts automatically containing at least one (a set of) tags related to the forum the post is created in? I ask this because I have not found a good way to simply view a list of all unanswered posts for a particular product. In the current OCS forum (still on the old site version) there is a link to list all Unanswered Posts across all forums 20+ forums on that product. The new forum forces me to go through each product sub-forum manually which is very time consuming.
Ideally tags could be used to perform this, but if I create a URL by filtering 'windows' and 'server' and looking at only unanswered questions, the results show merely 10 threads. I'm guessing that less than 10% of posters are including tags, so it would be more effective to either require at least one tag, or insert some default tags. For example, every post in the Windows Server forums would always have at least 'windows' + 'server' or other forums would have 'forefront' + 'client' or 'forefront' + 'server', etc.
Alternatively I'd like to see links on a product forum's main page similar to what the individual categories have no for viewing all Answered and Unanswered questions.Jeff Schertz, PointBridge | MVP | MCITP: Enterprise Messaging
I think the suggestion is a good one and have made it myself, either based on forum generically or derived by text analysis. however, the 'tags' are actually based on user bookmarks. as such we cannot create default tag values without creating bookmarks for the posting user. That makes sense, and I sort of figured that's what the response would be. I think the tag cloud as it is will not be very useful as a small percentage of posts are actually covered that way. And searching is also not compelte because there is no gaurantee that product-related keywords are used in the message.
I've been chatting about this with other MVP and knowledgable users who contribute often to the forums, and a way to easily list all unanswered threads under a specific Product Group is very important. I like the idea of a customizable 'My Fourms' view, but that is probably a few versions off. A link to list posts across all categories in a given product forum should be a very simple code update.
