How to record -- my mutual fund is closing RRS feed

  • Question

  • My mutual fund company is closing the fund I have, and moving my proceeds to another of the company's mutual funds. I will get the same value for my fund in a different mutual fund.

It will not be a sale and then purchase - there won't be a taxable event.

How do I handle this in my account list? I have one account for this mutual fund and the fund which is closing is the only security in this account.

Is this a "remove shares" and "add shares", or is it something similar to a stock spin-off? The fund which I will be transferred into is not one that I currently own.

I am using Microsoft Money 2007.

    Thank you for any advice.

  • You can handle this by doing a split and then renaming the old fund to the new name.  Here's a link:
