CRM 2011 Sends outs old emails after upgrade to Outlook client 2011 add in RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good Morning,

We have CRM 2011 on prem and are upgrading staff's Outlook 2010 client add in from 4.0 to 2011.After we upgraded one person's Outlook cleint add in to 2011 we ran into the following problem. A number of Outlook emails that were sent previously were automatically resent to internal and external email addresses. Some of the emails were more than 8 months old.  Has anyone else ran into this issue?  Not all of these emails were tracked in the CRM and not all of their old emails were resent.  We are trying to determine the extend of this problem before we upgrade more staff.

I would appreciate any input from others if they have had this problem and if they identified the cause.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Kaye -

That's unfortunately not a unique event. I once had it happen with my own outlook + emails -

The issue is that there were likely emails "pending" but either the old 4.0 installation had problems preventing them from being delivered that were corrected by re-installing/upgrading to 2011 -

Or the setting for allow email to be sent through outlook changed during the upgrade. -

Or in the user setting from within Outlook:

Either way, the old 'pending' emails then finally had a clear path out and made their escape. :)

To avoid the problem in the future - before re-installing CRM Outlook - check for any email activity with a pending status - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd979089.aspx

and resolve whether you want the email sent or not - you may need to delete them /before/ upgrading the user.

    Hope that helps.
