Can you receive the MSWGA kit without installing the operating system first? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I purchased software via an auction site,  When I received it I contacted Microsoft to check the product key(s) I purchased three discs.  All three were determined to be volume licenses.  I was informed that these would not work for me.  The representative listed my options. I asked the seller to provide me with new software that is valid.  He declined. Nexr I asked for a refund. Declined.  So i want to try the MSWGA kit offer.  I have not installed any of this software and what I want to know is, do I need to install it to apply for the offer?  Or is there another way?

    Thank you!

  • Hello Mpsabre,

Thank you for visiting our WGA forum.  Sorry to hear the experience you had while purchasing software from this auction site. Curious what was the auction site where you purchased the Microsoft software from? Please let us know. Next did you notice if the seller has a storefront as well or were they selling the software one at time deal? Please visit http://www.microsoft.com/piracy and take the time and file a piracy report. This will help you as well as other potential people who may visit this site to purchase software. Next visit http://www.howtotell.com and compare the media you purchased against what you see on this site. This site provides genuine and non-genuine examples as what to look for. Also contact the auction site and let them know what happened. Also if you used a credit card maybe you can dispute the charges.

  • Morning Mpsabre,

Please contact EBay and PayPal regarding the problem which you have experienced.  Where PayPal is an EBay company, both websites are separate. Both websites will want to be contacted regarding your transaction to work with you. Where we are not aware of their exact process, we do recommend you looking into PayPal’s Resolution Center if you used PayPal to pay for your transaction.

Did you provide the sellers account and name as well as their EBay alias on the piracy report which you have filed? The more details you provide on the Microsoft Piracy report will help the investigation. We appreciate you providing us with the information and filing a piracy report. This not only will help you but countless others who may be duped into purchasing from the same individual.

Mpsabre, I would like to also provide some additional information. Non-genuine Windows Software can contain many virsus.
Research has shown that about half of the software copies available on P2P download sites are infected with root kits, spyware, Trojans, and other potentially harmful malware. One file in particular was very alarming.  This file was an administrator account giving the attacker full control over both your system and data.  I would recommend that you not use the Windows you purchased from this individual. You can find more information @ the http://www.microsoft.com/piracy and http://www.howtotell.com .

Also you can purchase the Genuine Advantage Kits. I provide the links in my last posting for you. Also you may be eligible for free Windows replacement if the Windows is a high quality counterfiet copy. This will take time for the investigation though so please have patients.

Thank you again and hopefully this will provide you with more insight.

    Take care :-)

  • Hello Stephen,

The auction site was eBay and the seller did not have a storefront.  He was offering a lot of three(3) for the auction.  I have filed a piracy report about the same time I posted here.  They do look like counterfeit product key coa's.  I purchased these through paypal, do you know if there is any recourse through them?  I still need to contact eBay about this, I will post any info I receive here.  Should I list the sellers account and name?

    Thanks
