Cannot pass Microsoft Genuine Advantage check, but Windows valid RRS feed

  • I'm trying to download some software that require a Microsoft Genuine Advantage check, but cannot pass it for some reason. I receive the message "A problem has been encountered during the Microsoft Genuine Advantage validation process. Due to technical difficulties, we are unable to determine whether your operating system is genuine at this time. Please return later to complete the validation process." (The error code is [0x80080100]). I've run the diagnostic check at http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/, and all components pass.

    I've never had problems before, and I've been running this install for many months. My copy of Windows is valid and activated. I just successfully repeated phone activation after running slui.exe 4, which didn't help. Windows is up to date (Windows 7 Professional 64-bit).

    Any help fixing this is much appreciated.

    THis is typicly caused by a misconfigured firewall or proxy or some other connection issue with the validation server. Try validating at a later time, check firewall and proxy settings, insure you are using Internet Explorer to validate.

  • Thanks for the response Carl.

    I tried disabling Windows Firewall and validating again. I have no proxy, and used Internet Explorer. Still didn't work. Any other suggestions? I'm plugged directly into our modem via a network cable, with the usual network settings, and haven't had connectivity issues with any other application.

    Hmmmm - one person reported that using Chrome for the validation exercise worked, where IE failed every time - it's worth a go!
