Changing Avatar in not-product-support Forums NOT Working ?? (2) RRS feed

  • Question

  • (Note: I intended to post my Avatar thread here "Forums Issues (not product support)", but for whatever reason it appeared in "Suggestions and Feedback for the Forums"!!  My apologies.
    Once the isuue is resolved, I'll remove the other thread.)

    Hello;

    1) Yesterday, I changed the Avatar picture of My Profile in MS Answers Product Support Forums.
    It works fine.

    2) Earlier today, I tried the same Avatar image in this "Forums Issues (not product support)" site:
    --> sign in
    --> click username
    --> Edit My Profile
    --> Avatar/Browse/*.JPG (760 KB)
    --> Save
    --> sign out/sign in

    3) Accessing any of my earlier threads/replies in this Forum Issues (not product support) site still shows the OLD Avatar.
    However, clicking my username in the right pane now displays the NEW Avatar image!!

    Are this "Forums Issues" site and other MS Answers "not product support" sites also being redesigned and hence the unresponsiveness ??

    Thank you kindly for your advice.

  • Hi Brent;

    Good news ... It works!!
    It appears that running the "Disk Cleanup" utility did the trick.

    Thank you once again for your tremendous help, patience, and generous time.

  • The MS Answers site and profile are different then the MSDN/TechNet forums. So an avatar changed in answers won't reflect here. Now if the profile avatar (in our forums) shows differently than what you see in forums, that is likely a cache issue. You could just wait and it should update eventually.

    Also, please include urls for the sites etc you are asking about. This helps us be sure we are on the same page with regard to which properties you are asking about in the scenarios above.

    Thanks for reporting this and feel free to reply back if the avatar continues to not reflect what you expect.

  • Hi Brent;

    Items 2) and 3) of my OP apply for example to:

    When you say: " ... that is likely a cache issue. You could just wait and it should update eventually."
    Are you talking about days or weeks ??

  • I'm talking 'hours'. Your avatar in our system seems to be the little fan. If I look at your avatar in your profile http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/profile/monirg/?type=forum&referrer=http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/reportabug/threads it is the little fan, it's the little fan in msdn/technet forums also.

    Can you profile a url for the avatar in the Answers system? Have you updated your avatar in the msdn/technet profile yet (url above)?

  • Brent;

    Thanks again for your prompt reply.

    1) The analytical little "fan" you referred to is the correct Avatar, which is displayed when I click my username in this site.
    But at the top of my postings (in this Forum incl. this reply) and to the left of the username, I still see the old default "Picasso" green square Avatar!!!
    Remember, in the MS Answers Forums I had no problem changing the picture to this exact Image!

    2) You asked: " ... Have you updated your avatar in the msdn/technet profile yet (url below) ?"
    Well, I've just accessed the above url.  It displays:
    a--> the correct Username
    b--> the correct My Profile
    c--> the correct "fan" Avatar
    d--> and below the "Edit My Profile" it shows:
           OTHER PROFILES: TechNet -- Expression -- Microsoft

    Do I suppose to do something regarding Item d above ??

    Kind regards.

  • When I look at the forum posts in this forum, all your avatars are the fan avatars.  So I suspect this may be a problem with your local cach, have you/can you close your browser and deleted temporary files (cache)..see if that helps at all?  This is the url for what looks like the correct fan, in all the posts from you

    1) " ... When I look at the forum posts in this forum, all your avatars are the fan avatars."
    Very strange!
    ONLY my posts in MS Answers Forums display the correct "fan" Avatar.
    My posts in this forum (and also in the Suggestions and Feedback for the Forums) still display the old default Picasso green Avatar.  However, clicking my username in those forums display the correct "fan"!!!!

    2) " ... This is the url for what looks like the correct fan, in all the posts from you"
    Well, clicking the above url displays the old green Avatar!

    3) " ... I suspect this may be a problem with your local cach, have you/can you close your browser and deleted temporary files (cache)"
    I'm assuming by turning the computer off and on (which I've done numerous times) would've taken care of that.
    Furthermore, I've just run Disk Cleanup and deleted the following (low-risk) temp files:
    --> Temp Internet Files
    --> MS Office Temp Files
    --> Temp Files
    --> WebClient/Publisher Temp File
    Still no luck!
    (Will turn off/on the computer and access this forum after submitting this reply.)

    4) Are there other "low-risk temp files" you think I should consider deleting ??

    Thanks again for your generous time and help.
