Cannot remove OneCare file from PC - says I do not have permission

I had OneCare for over a year. When the time came to renew I received a message saying that they no longer offer this program. So I removed it and went with another one.
The problem is that when I used the program I was required to create a backup folder. I did this on my external harddrive. I have tried over and over and over for the last 5 months to delete this folder. It continues to tell me that I do not have permission. I even tried to remove it while I was still under my paid subscription so i know that me not using it anymore is not the problem. I have checked under properties to make sure that the access denied box isnt checked and its not.
Can someone PLEASE help!! This folder is taking up ALOT of space on my harddrive and is no longer needed.

Thanks for that info Stephen. I actually already tried that link and I even tried it again after you reposted it. It does not work. I have tried this on both my laptop and PC.
I found this forum during my search and followed all of these instructions and it still is not working. After going to the "sharing and security" folder and making those changes - Now I cannot even access the folders

The FAQ instructions will work, though it can be a pain in the neck. Start at the deepest folder within the backup location, take ownership, delete the contents, delete the folder, then move up a level until you have only the top level backup folder left.
If that still does not work, contact OneCare Support -

In fact, the *easiest* solution is to copy all other data from that drive to another location, verify that your copies are good, then format the drive containing the backups.

I emailed customer support yesturday and someone got back with me this morning. They gave me a few different instructions and that did not work either. So I just emailed him back and hopefully he will be able to help.
Thank you so much for taking the time to go over all of this stuff with me. I just got your most recent messages so while I wait on his reply I will try one last time to follow those steps above. Either way, I will follow up to let you (and others that may read this post) if the problem was corrected.
**So i just tried the stuff above and it will not let me into the folders. When I try and take ownership its saying I dont have permission and will not accept the changes. It will also not allow me to move the folder to any other location. Grr...this is getting so frustrating. I am going ot wait on the microsoft tec to email me back. Hopefully he can fix this. thanks againf or trying.

Are you accessing the folders while logged in with an administrative account?
What operating system are you using? Vista Home Premium, Vista Business, Windows 7 Home, etc?
Note that I won't be back here until tomorrow, but I'll try to check in earlier if I can.
