Cannot obtain lock on resource Update - stored procedure sp_getapplock returned error code -3 RRS feed

  • On Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013, we have some workflows that are in "Waiting" status after an import is performed in the CRM.

    The error received is "An error has occurred. Try this action again. If the problem continues, check the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Community for solutions or contact your organization's Microsoft Dynamics CRM Administrator. Finally, you can contact Microsoft Support." Also on the Details section, we have more information regarding this error "Cannot obtain lock on resource:'Opportunity_6ae9886d-a8f7-e311-b96a-005056a01b76', mode:Update - stored procedure sp_getapplock returned error code -3."

    If we try manually to resume all of the workflow, one by one, they all work. This happens only when an import of Opportunity products is performed

    From our investigations it seems that this error is caused by SQL server configuration and the lack of resources. The workflows are trying to run in the same time and are blocking the Opportunity table.

    We have one recommendation to modify the settings for the SQL server: MAX DOP = 1 (max degrees of parallelism), but since this parameter is defined on the instance level and we have several organizations on this instance, we are looking if there is other solution.
