ummm, how about BIOS???....bios firware is actually a software which is considered for
     hardware???

we can always flash our bios , to the latest version available, but hardly it is done at client level, and neither recommended [until you have a proficiency at doing it]...mostly manufactures flash it...

  • what about EPROMs (electronically programmable ram's)

  • BIOS is in  my view a correct answer (I too thought of the same...)

  • What about Device Drivers for USB Devices. They nowadays are embedded into a ROM in the USB Device and get loaded when attached.

  • Dear Friend,

Greetings, EEPROM is also a software with logic gates now considered as a part of h/w.

System Punch Card earlier technologies now Hard Disk Drive to store and compile.

  • DSP(Digital Signal Processing) Softwares are nowadays being embedded into h/w systems.
e.g DSP for highly used audio codecs embedded into Sound Cards.
Examples of work in this area include:

MP3 audio encoder and decoder optimization on ARM, TI C54x,TI DM270 and C67x platforms
MPEG4 AAC encoder and decoder optimization on ARM, TI C54x, TI DM270, TI C62x and C55x platforms
Dolby AC3 decoder optimization on TI C54x platform
WMA decoder optimization on TI C55x platform
    For Video Cards:

MPEG4 SP/ASP encoder/decoder implementation for CIF,4CIF, QVGA and VGA resolutions on various TI DSPs
MPEG4 SP decoder implementation for VGA (640x480) on TI TMS320DSC25 processor

MPEG4 SP encoder/decoder implementation for VGA (640x480) on TI TMS320DM270 processor

MPEG4 ASP decoder implementation for VGA (640x480) on TI TMS320DM270 processor

MPEG4 SP encoder for CIF on Philips Trimedia 1300 processor

AVI-2-MPEG4 Transcoder for converting raw RGB video to MPEG4 video

MPEG4 Core and Main Profile encoders on TI C62x and TI 64x

MPEG2 video decoder Main Profile @ Main Level implementation on Hitachi SH processor.

MPEG2 video decoder Main Profile @ Main Level implementation on TI TMS320DM270 processor
