Are you doing anything special around 1AM Redmond time ?

    Question

  • I've noticed that I can work at normal (i.e. not fast but things work) speeds with the forums when at work between 6:20 and roughly 8:00 (= 4:20 and 6 GMT) and then things with the forums either don't work at all or are so slow it feels as if they aren't working.

This goes on for several hours while everything else (newsgroups; US web sites etc.) continue to work at full speed so it's not a problem with my company's structure.

By the time I get home at ca 14 GMT the forums are working at their usual speed again.

So, are you starting any forum runs around 22 PM Redmond time (today it was 21:45 Redmond time) that would cause the massive delays I'm experiencing?

** Note the corrected Redmond times **   22PM not 1AM. 1AM is Eastern Standard Time **

  • Slow on reading/viewing or posting/updating or both? I think there may be a few back end batch type processes that run, I'll have to confirm the time though. Also, I've seen some spikes in web activity overnight PST which I attribute to some crawler traffic. I'll try to check the stats over a few days and see if there are any spikes around that time.

  • Slow on just about everything. You can't even open a forum half the time.

So slow that you think the Internet connection is completely down but then you go to another US web site; or to a newsgroup or ... and they are all working normally.

I have a feeling that I noticed slower than usual access times this morning at home at around the same time (Saturday here - Friday night in Redmond) although it seemed quite a bit better than the workplace situation. But that might be just that at the workplace the forums are fine from my 6:30 and just die almost completelty around 7:45 (your 21:45)

This is new by the way (i.e. recent) I didn't notice this in 2008 and my working hours were the same. Now I read my e-mails *after* working the forums to get as much "fast" time in as possible

Note that I corrected the Redmond times in the first post !!  Redmond is ten hours after me here.
