About MCP 70-536 certification RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all ,

I confused about microsoft certification. Early I learned to be a microsoft professional developer, you must clear the 70-536 exam and you take MCP, later clear a web, windows,... exam and you can be a MCTS.

But Now I learned MCP has changed as MCTS. MCP exam was .net Framework 2.0 questions.

Now which way I mus follow? Which exams I clear for MCP? which frameworks?

No, it is not expired. You still need 70-536 if you want a certification on version 3.5 of the Framework (Visual Studio 2008).
if I want to be MCTS, I must clear only one exam(70-511, 70-515, 70-516 or 70-513) is this true?
Yes. This would give you a MCTS certification on version 4.0 (Visual Studio 2010). This version does not require 70-536.
if I want to be MCPD which exams have to clear?
If you want the MCPD on version 4.0, you typically need to clear four exams (three MCTS plus the "PRO" exam), although this depends on the MCPD track that you choose. The specific exams that you need also vary depending on the track, for instance, they would be different if you want an MCPD on desktop applications or if you want it on Web applications.

  • Hi,

the .Net Framework 2 certifications are expired now. You can still do the certification for Visual Studio 2008 or just start with Visual Studio 2010.

You find an overview to the MCPD (not MCP - Microsoft Certified Professional is something else!) at http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/cert-vstudio.aspx#tab2.

I would suggest to do the 2010 exams (if there is no real reason for you to do the Visual Studio 2008 ones!). There is no basic exam like 70-536 any longer. You can directly start with 70-511, 70-515, 70-516 or 70-513. These exams will gran you a MCTS certification if you pass them.

    With kind regards,

    Konrad

  • you have to figure out which MCPD you want to achieve.  It's not just one track.  MCTS is the technical specialist track - basically, it tests if you can, given a task to do something, do it.  The MCPD on the other hand is designed to certify that you know a product at a depper level, given something non-functional (I need to have Sql Servers that can handle a gazillion simultaneous users, have a 10,000 dollar budget blah blah - which strategy is best) requirements for example, can you develop strategies or discern best practices.  In order to have that level of proficiency, you need to obviously know the product fairly intimately, so you typically achieve it one product at a time, and pick the track. there are core exams you need in place (namely TS ones) and then you take the PD ones to earn the respective cert. Does that make sense?

Please refer to the following link to determine whch MCPD track you want to do.  Once you've chosen a track, you can then see what exams you'll need to take http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/mcpd.aspx
