How do I stream video (avi) over the internet

Question
-
I am using media sharing with my digital media device and it works like a charm. I am able to see and listen to all my media files in DSM-520 and my BuffaloLink without any problems. However, I want to be able to see my movies over the internet without having to download the file. If I click on the file, it only gives me the option to save and not run from within the browser or media player. Any ideas or suggestions? All my movies are in avi format.
Thanks

You should take a look at WebGuide for Windows Home Server.
WebGuide alone is an awesome piece of software, on WHS it's even better in letting you easily stream content over the internet based on the available bandwidth (something you ultimately specify).

I did go ahead and install.. It looks like a great program. However, I am having so much trying stream video. I am getting the following error message:
Server error:There was an error initializing the stream:
Error connecting source filter to ASF Writer. Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. Also, I have not been also to get it to work with windows media player.
Thanks

Eeek.
Your best bet would seek help for this issue on the WebGuide forums where the developer of it hangs out.

Seems that his site is down, I heard he took a job with MSFT, so I wonder if that is why his site is now down.Wednesday, December 19, 2007 1:32 AM

It was working a matter of days ago, and MS were promoting the fact that Web Guide was now free.
Maybe the domain's just expired and he forgot to renew it, having other things on his mind
