Setup issue No driver for network card RRS feed

  • Question

  • How can I get the drivers for my Rosewill USB driver to load during setup. Home Server 2011 goes through setup, then reboots and continues setup. After scanning (blue bar moving left to right) for network access I get a message saying no network found. The only option visible at that point is to click on RESTARt. I'm sure that the network can't be found because the network driver is not instaslled but can't figure out how to install it.

  • Hi Jeff,
Windows Home Server 2011 (based on Windows Small Business Server 2008) will not install without a NIC.
See "System Requirements" as stated in the "Getting_Started_Guide_for_Windows_Home_Server_2011"

In case of hardware not supported by the drivers presnet in the excisting setup media it is necessairy to supply add additional drivers.
I can not see what is 'unstable' in that?

  • Hi,
The only "Rosewill USB" network product I can find is a WireLess USB network produkt.
This won't work. You wil need a wired connection.

If you are trying to use Wireless USB network hardware consider installing an internal NIC with drivers supporting Windows 2008 Server.

  • Did you attach the nic to the internet during installation?
I noticed here that the NIC is installed, but I got the same message just because the NIC-cable was not inserted. Attaching the NIC-cable solved it and was able to complete the installation. Strange that the installation just got interrupted because the NIC-cable was not inserted...

  • This build is very unstable.  It didn't have the driver for my onboard Intel NIC.  I had to pick it from the list of drivers and it wasn't the same driver.  You have to interrupt the search its doing by CRTL + ALT + DEL.

Actually, Theo, according to the Getting Started Guide, right after the Table of Contents on page 4, under What's New, it states:

"Windows Home Server 2011 is based on Windows Server 2008 R2."

  • It didn't even install when the NIC cable was not inserted either here.

I went to the Rosewill site, and the only thing USB I could find are wireless, including the discontinued RNX G100 <http://rosewill.com/products/268/series.htm> which will not work with any version of WHS server. Your WHS server must be "wired" to your router in order to work. IOW, you must have a NIC, such as one of these: <http://rosewill.com/products/268/series.htm> none of these: <http://rosewill.com/products/268/series.htm> will work, since they are all wireless.

You can, of course, use either wireless or wired on your client machine. Only the Server is so picky, but I can see why.
