Live OneCare Renewal RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a purchased copy of OneCare which I was going to install when my current subscription expired. I see that Windows is no longer selling this and has extended all subscriptions by 6 months.  Before installing my new copy, I must uninstall the old one.  If I do that will I still have the 6 month extension? Should I wait until that expires before installing the new one?

  • If you remove the current copy and reinstall, using the new key and a new LiveID, you will lose the free extension. Note, however, that OneCare will be unsupported by the end of 2010. And, if you wait until the existing subscription ends, you may not be able to start a new subscription, despite holding a good retail key. New activations will be disallowed at some point in the future, likely by 1/1/10 based on the target end of support date.
