Restore Backup onto Different Computer RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have to restore the system drive of a laptop with a brand new SATA drive. I have the new HDD right now running tests in an external SATA enclosure on another computer. I have what I assume are recent good backups of the computer at the WHS. Is there any way to restore this drive in place on the computer in the external SATA? Then I won't have to set up the laptop as a wired network device and boot off a restore CD and hope it finds the WHS. The computer with the external SATA has assured WHS connectivity. I'm guessing not, but I thought I'd ask.
    Thx.

Yes.  Run C:\Program Files\Windows Home Server\ClientRestoreWizard.exe from that computer.  Just make sure you restore to the correct hard drive/partition as overwriting the OS on that computer would be....less than fortunate.  :)
