I'm a REALLY basic user of EXCEL RRS feed

  • Question

  • WHY when I type 123d456 shows fine. But when I type 123e456 it turns into some weird equation.

    I really need excel to, stop doing that. (Yes I've changed the formula back to TEXT/ General

    You need to format your range as Text, not General or

     start your numbers with an Apostrophe ( ' ). the apostrophe will disappear.

    and

    What is the E  ?

    it is used for scientific notation where E is just substituted for 10 so 1.664 x 10^-8. This means you move your decimal point 8 places to the left (negative) .
