  • Question

  • I do IT for a private school.  We purchase a volume education license and image all our computers with the same image.  I will periodically get this message up on a computer...have to reimage to resolve the issue.

Does not make sense as I use a volume license key and it is the same key on every single computer here, yet only get the message sporadically.  Any ideas?

  • Hi Grover,

I believe I know what the root cause of the issue is (Remote Security Profiles for their network users) – which is easily resolved. This issue usually occurs when customers have remote security profiles on a slow network – causing a time-out in security profile loading and forcing cryptographics to not work properly. This causes WGA Notifications to signal.

The fix to this has been included in builds of WGA Notifications (WGATray) later than 1.5.540.0 . So the fix is to upgrade your image to the latest WGA version here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=69498.

If this does not resolve your issue, please download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool (at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012), on a computer having the issue, then click the Windows tab, Copy, then Paste the report into a response message in this thread.

  • Thank you for the update.  I will attempt this on the next computer that I come across with this issue.  I would assume that the updates have been happening though as we have a WSUS server that pushes all these updates to these computers and we have not seen any issues.

If it is not updating, I will post the report from the diagnostic tool.  Thanks again.
