Security camera DVR access and playing its video on server desktop RRS feed

  • Question

  • Let me start by saying that I know that the server is not meant to be used as a workstation. However, this is a last-resort work-around, and I have no choice.

    My problem is thus:

I have a security camera DVR system on my network.

I can access this system via IE and typing in the local IP: (the port I opened).

I can access the login page just fine.

I can access the security camera's files and everything.

However, I can't play the saved files, nor the live preview of the cameras. Strange.

Curious, I downloaded a desktop program by the security company. This functions the same way, only it avoids a browser. (accesses the DVR system the same way, via IP address. Same issue: I can access the system but can't view the video.

    I'm truly mystified. Any advice?

[edit] Let me also add that I have tried disabling the firewall. No effect. I've also installed Shark007's video codecs. No effect.

  • Hi,

Since the current issue is not a WHS2011 related issue, I suggest you’d better contact the support of the security camera DVR manufactor, I suspect it may be caused by the camera program codec problem. Thanks for your understanding.
