Are you an MSDN account holder?
    If not....

Your Key is from a not-for-resale MSDN account. You need to claim an immediate refund from the vendor - do NOT accept the offer of a new key.(all they are trying to do is to get past the 45-day claims window. or avoid you sending the evidence of their crimes to the authorities)

Please read the following stickies.... .......

The pirates have got VERY good at this over the past few years, as the price of equipment for manufacturing the packages drops, and as factories open in less well-policed countries.

Yep - You should be able to get a reasonable deal on it from a reputable source.
I know it's possible to get approx 20% discount from some major UK retailers - you should be able to get similar discounts wherever you are. Any higher discount that that should ring warning bells.
To be absolutely sure, you could purchase direct from MS (at full price), or use the link in the notification to purchase a WGA Kit - bear in mind that although the WGA kit is a full Retail license, it comes with a supplementary license which restricts it to use on the affected machine in the same way as an OEM license would be.

  • If you bought a sealed boxed copy it is a counterfeit made in China.  There are no boxed MSDN copies.  MSDN just doesn't work that way.  Subscribers get access to download links and request keys online.  Given the cost of a subscription it is rare for a subscriber to risk cancellation by exposing product keys.

  • Ok but the WGA kit means I can only use it for this machine?

I do rebuilds and upgrades and overclock my system a lot...

If I  change the motherboard what will happen?

    Infact I did this upgrade

New MOBO processor and RAM and tried to upgrade to WIN7 SP1 and this happened.

I tried upgrading to Win7 SP1 on my old system, it failed but I never got the validation genuine issue as I am getting now..

IS it thus new hardware related..

Whats a good deal for WIn7 ult 64 retail version

    PS live in Sweden

thanx for help so far but it looks expensive for me...

So I should just call microsoft (India) and tell them I have changed my components and they can validate the OEM I have ??? O am i nuts?

  • The WGA kit works like an OEM copy in that it is not transferrible to another computer and is not valid if you upgrade the motherboard.  The license is not equivalent to a retail license.

There are no "good deals" for Windows 7 Ultimate and unless you need multiple language support I suggest you purchase Professional.  Ultimate goes out of support five years sooner than Pro.  If you do purchase a full license copy of Ultimate you can avoid reinstalling Windows by simply changing the product key at the bottom of the System Properties page.  The internet is full of counterfeit Windows and product keys so only purchase from the Microsoft Store in your region or from a well known retailer.

You do not have an OEM copy.  It is an MSDN license that is no longer valid because Microsoft has block it due to abuse.  The product key you have in your report is dead.  Microsoft India will not activate it for you.  You were sold a counterfiet copy and Microsoft is under no obligation to honor it.
