The Windows Vista Home Basic product key you typed is invalid for activation RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I tried logging on to my Toshiba Satellite L500-13V which came pre-installed with Vista Home Basic (purchased 2 years ago) - after inputting my normal password I got the following error msg:

The Windows Vista Home Basic product key you typed is invalid for activation

I chose the option to type a different product key and input the product code on the sticker at the bottom of my laptop.

Following that I got this error msg:

The product key you entered does not appear to be a valid Windows Vista product key

My screen is black and in the lower right hand corner it reads:

    Windows Vista

    Build 6000

This copy of Windows is not genuine

I only have access to my web browser to enable me to either purchase a new key code or obtain online assistance.

I have seen in other forums the advise saying download links to the desktop but I am not in a position to do this.

Any ideas on why this has suddenly happened and what I can do to get my laptop working again.

    I got the below diagnostic
