  • Error code 0x80080250:

If you get this error code, it means that your antivirus program's Digital Rights Management (DRM) is not matching with Windows Vista.  In simple words, it is not compatible with Windows Vista.  You need to contact the antivirus manufacturer to obtain a version that is compatible with Window Vista, and then reactivate the OS.

Or completely uninstall your antivirus program and install an excellent one such as Windows OneCare.  You can use it FREE for ninety days: http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/default.htm

  • I'm in the same boat.  I'm going to try to restore again to an even earlier point.  I'll let you know how that goes.  I posted this 10 hours ago and I'm still waiting for some sort of reply.  Sigh.

Update: System restore worked.  There was a Windows update overnight that screwed everything up, I think.  I've disabled automatic updates until sp1.  Unfortunately, programs I uninstalled days ago are now in the programs list again, but I can't uninstall them since the actual data is gone.  Ugh!

  • well still having the same prblem but have been doing a bit of serching and found 2 things

1st is that one of the windows updates that was installed this morning was a hardware update (bloody clever that you give us a new driver it stuffs wga)

2nd the error i get when trying to validate and come back with unnable to tell if this copy of windows is genuine etc has an error code and the code is 0x80080250

on doing a search about that code it says You received one of these error codes because your antivirus software or Digital Rights Management (DRM) software is incompatible with Windows Vista. Contact the software manufacturer of the antivirus software or of the DRM software to obtain a version that is compatible with Window Vista, and then reactivate Windows Vista. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base

well Microsoft is my antivirus supplier i'm running Onecare Beta 2 on 3 of my PC's with this one (Vista Ultimate X64) as the hub.

really think its about time WGA was scrapped as got friends with pirate copies of Visat and there still up and running with no problems. Me i paid for this software and YOU SHUT ME OUT OF MY OWN PC come on please can someone do something, i have no desktop,  No start button, absolutly Bloody nothing I AM NOT REINSTALLING OR REFORMATING (even though i do have full backups) why should i but looks like people who''ve reformated are still having the same issues, come on Microshaft do something to fix this.

  • You can get started with phone activation by typing "slui.exe 4"
(w/o the quotes) in the Start Search box in the Start Menu and pressing
    Enter.
The phone activation process takes about 6 minutes.

Please post the results of the WGA diagnostics tool (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012) with any new question.

Please also post the error code you get (if any) when you validate by clicking "Validate Windows" here: www.microsoft.com/genuine
The error code will be gray and in brackets at the end of the message on the page that says validation failed.  (It'll look something like this:  [0xC004C000]).

    Thank you!

  • very sorry to be a bit blunt but can you not read, I CANT EVEN GET INTO THE DESK TOP NO START BUTTON NO BLOODY NOTHING ALL I HAVE IS A SCREEN WITH " WINDOWS ACTIVATION    A CHANGE OCCURRED TO YOUR WINDOWS LICENSE"  you must retype the product key which i do,  i click next and get " The product key you have entered will not work with this edition of Windows Vista   You must either run Windows Vista Set Up or enter a Windows Vista Ultimate product Key.

i close that window and click the link that says go on line to validate that your software is genuine.

i then am taken to http//:www.microsoft.com/genuine and i then click the link that says validate windows all i then get is Windows Validation Error

Unknown error encountered during Windows validation. The validation service is unable to determine whether your copy of Windows is genuine. Please validate again. If additional attempts result in validation errors you may want to try again later.

and at the end of that is a code which is 0x80080250

please tell me what i can do i need to us my pc its for work and i cant work

  • well the only option i had in the end was to completly reinstall Windows Vista Ultimate X64 (lucky i carry out full backups every week) but still lost a lot of time and loads of frustration.

was a bit paranoid about reactivaing as when was having the no genuine messages coming up i was thinking that some little scum bag had managed to use a keygen that had come up with my key (far fetched not sure) but thought best thing to do was install all hardware and any updates for the hardware then install any software updates that i could find from Windows update.

Did all that and took the plunge clicked on Activate Windows and low and behold it activated no problem now just reinstalling  programs and settings etc and will see how it goes.

must say though that the help from here was a bit poor.

  • what you talking about you can still access everything, thx to a glitch the pop-up itself (gotta love microsoft!). I wrote a whole article on it you can see it on ph33r.org prob by the end of the day or in a day or 2. Using this I bypassed that screen and did an upgrade using my upgrade disk, then I took care to make it genuine permanently ;p
