  • Changing the Product key should have resolved the issues (including the "no installation ID" issue).  If it did not, then I agree with the Activation Rep that you should call Technical Support, when you are able.

  • Hello mattegner,

The Diagnostic Report is showing that Windows 7's Licensing Store may be corrupt or it's data is messed up in some way.  Please try the below steps to recreate the store and it's data.

    1) Click Start button.
    2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
    3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
    4) Type: net stop sppsvc    (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection servive may not be running, this is ok.
    5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
    6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    8) Type: net start sppsvc
    9) Type: slui.exe
    10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear. You may be asked to re-enter your product key or to re-activate or Activation may occur automatically.

    Thank you,

    Darin MS

Odd - the exact same error, even down to the time-stamp, which I would have expected to change.

Did you get any error messages during the process of trying the fix?

Please try it again - you will need to change one thing in the instructions, though

    instead of
    6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    use
    6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar2
(this avoids you possibly getting an error from attempting to rename a file to an already-existing filename)

Make a careful note of the EXACT error messages you get (if any), and then run a new MGADiag report, and post it back, together with details of the messages.

  • To confirm, the Product key you are entering is the one listed on the sticker on the side or bottom or (in some laptops) the battery compartment of the PC .  And the last 15 digits of the product key you are entering are 4H4DM-J4369-GMMM9.  Is that correct?

  • Yes and yes...
    Friday, January 7, 2011 8:06 PM
  • OK, so since (according to your Diagnostic Report) that same 4H4DM-J4369-GMMM9 key is currently being used in Windows right now, we know it was accepted at some point.

What happens if you try to change the Product key (to the same key listed on the sticker) by clicking the Start button, right-click Computer and select Properties then click the Change Product key button?

OK, do the key was Accepted, you just got an error when the Change Product key Wizard attempted to Activate over the Internet.  Since a CoA SLP key can Only be activated by Phone, this error is not unexpected.

Did you attempt to activate by Phone, afterward?  If not, please try  and then post a new Diagnostic Report.

  • Hi - I tried that, but no installation ID is shown in the screen, so I spoke to an operative who asked me to call UK technical support, who are closed for the day now, and due to the opening hours I wont have the opprtunity to call them for a week.

    What do we try now?

  • Is there anyone there - I've been waiting for a reply for 3 days?

  • Changing the Product key should have resolved the issues (including the "no installation ID" issue).  If it did not, then I agree with the Activation Rep that you should call Technical Support, when you are able.
