folder recovery

Question
-
hi,
I'm using live mesh since the beginning of the year to sync data across my desktop and my laptop. unfortunately yesterday happened what I always wanted to avoid. Accidentely the folder which was synced with live mesh got deleted. It seems I lost all my data, it's gone on the laptop, in the cloud, and on the desktop. Is there any way to recover my folder? Any help would be very much appreciated.Thursday, September 17, 2009 8:08 PM

How large was the folder that you lost? It really should be in the Recycle Bin on the other devices at least, assuming that you used Shift/Delete to permanently delete the fodler and files from the source PC.
If you cannot find any of the files in the Recycle Bin on any of the devices, please submit a bug report with logs from the affected computers. I can't tell you that your data can be recovered, but at the very least your logs may reveal what happened and if this is a bug, the team can address the issue for future development.
It is to late for this folder, unfortunately, but I strongly urge *everyone* to make a backup of the Live Mesh folders in a location that is not part of the mesh as this is a beta product. While the Live Mesh team takes data loss very seriously and won't release a build with known problems that can cause data loss, bugs can happen.
How to Submit Bugs and Live Mesh Logs
Note that you probably won't get a response to the bug report, though. It will be transferred to the internal system to be assigned to the appropriate development group.

Actually I was able to recover my data. I figured out windows vista has this option, when right-clicking on a folder there is tab 'previous versions' which lets you restore a folder's previous version. I'm very happy this worked out, the data was about 300MB. Thanks for the help anyway.

Have you checked the recycle bin on both computers? If the files cannot be located in the recycle bin they may not be recoverable unless you have backed them up.

Whew! Glad you were able to recover. I'd really like you to submit a bug report with logs, too, though. The deleted files should have gone to the Recycle Bin as I noted in my last reply.
