Synctoy 2.1 Failed to Create Folder Pair - Error ID 80040154

Synctoy 2.1 is giving me the error:

Failed to create Folder Pair. Retrieving the COM Class Factory for component with CSLID {C201C012-C929-4D72-B9C5-341D48630630} failed due to the following error 80040154.

It is NOT a new installation and previous folder pairs worked fine. However, the problem has started to occur recently on any new pair that I try to create.

I don't have any other active pairs in use because I use Synctoy intermittently to achieve specific tasks - so my pairs "come and go" as I need them

I have re-installed several times but the problem persists.

I'm using Windows XP Professional SP3 on a Dell M4300 laptop - Windows patch updates are controlled by a central IT department. The following Sync elements are installed

Microsoft Sync Framework 2.0 Core Components (x86) ENU and
Microsoft Sync Framework 2.0 Provider Services (x86) ENU

Any advice ?

Your computer is x64 Operating System? I guess so... DELL M4300 is Win64bits
Compile your app to AnyCPU!

Try installing Sync Framework. The Error 80040154 is solved after you have sync framework 2.0

This worked for me. I'm running Win7 32bit and was getting this same error. SyncToy was working fine till one day it wasn't. Tried deleting all pairs, not using special characters in the name, all kinds of things. I found this thread via google, installed Sync Framework and now it works perfectly. Didn't even have to reboot. Thanks RAYRaa.

All I had to do was a repair on the Microsoft Sync Framework v2.0 Provider Service and everything works fine after that!

Control panel > Programs and Features > Microsoft Sync Framework v2.0 Provider Service > Change (After that I clicked everything that made sense - sorry I didn't record those steps, but hopefully, this gets anyone close with the same problem You might have started having the problem with SyncToy after installing Samsung Kies.

Thanks for this post. I've the same problem with this error message after I uninstall several programs. However, I don't know which program cause this problem. Might Samsung studio kit? or lenovo laptop power manager? or Apple program update?

BTW the problem solved just install the Sync Framework 2.0.

Control panel > Programs and Features > Microsoft Sync Framework v2.0 Provider Service > Change doesn't work for me.
