SyncToy 2.0 Beta - Folders Not Replicated In Destination Drive

Question
-
I am using SyncToy 2.0 Beta, and the Contribute format.
Using Create New Folder Pair, I created seven folder pairs from the source drive to be backed up to another drive.
Both the source and the destination drives are all USB external drives.
The folders in the source drive are not replicated to the destination drive. All the copied files are just "dumped" to the destination drive.
In other words, this is what is happening.
Source drive:
U:\Documents (Files A, B, C,).
U:\Downloads (Files: D, E, F.)
Destination Drive:
Files: A, B, C, D, E, F, etc.
Thanks.

DENLONG you are quite right.
The FOLDERS ARE NOT copied (replicated) at the destination folder.

Hi,
Maybe I have not had enough coffee yet, but I am having a hard time following you here.
You say that the files are "dumped" to the destination drive but they are not "replicated". What exactly do you mean here? Are you seeing the files from the source drive on the destination drive after sync has completed? Are there any errors or other things you can tell us?

Hi
I'm pretty sure he means the folders are not copied, just the contents of the folders.

LIAM, I think my 3rd & 4th paragraphs are clear enough. I don't know how else to explain my point in as mush English as I know.
Yes, the FILES are "dumped" to the destination folder but not with the FOLDERS from the source folder.
No folder is created in the destination drive.
Unfortunately, I cannot attach a print-screen to my message to show you what happens.

Did you create the corresponding root folders on the other side and mapping to those in his folder pairs? This could happen if you have U:\documents on the left and just pointed to the root (e.g., y:\) of the other drive on the right.

No I did not create corresponding root folder on the right side. Logically I should, but practically, I should not since the SyncToy 2.0 Beta is supposed to be a backup utility to backup (replicate) folders from one drive to another. It's prefix name "SYNC" tells it all.
I have only seven folders to copy to the right. However, how about it’s sub folder which some have three or four levels? If I create the same folder on the right, then I believe all the files on the left folder will be dumped on the same left folder. For example, I have an album by Kenny G. titled “Breathless”. The left drive has the root folder (Music), sub-folder (artist) Kenny G., and a sub-sub-folder (album) “Breathless”, then the tracks.
LEFT DRIVE:
U:\Music\Kenny G.\Breathless\
1. The Joy Of Life
2. Forever In Love
3. In The Rain
4. Sentimental
etc
RIGHT DRIVE:
Y:\
1. The Joy Of Life
2. Forever In Love
3. In The Rain
4. Sentimental
etc
In this case, this is just one album. I have hundreds of albums and other individual tracks (over ten thousands tracks). This is just the MUSIC main folder. I have six other major main folder to backup to the right drive (Y:\) . With what is happening, I will have drive Y:\ with music tracks, documents, job files, photos, all in one root backup drive.
What am I doing wrong in using the software?

In your example above with the LEFT DRIVE: and the RIGHT DRIVE: am I correct in understanding that in SyncToy the left and right folders look like "U:\Music\Kenny G.\Breathless" and "Y:\"? We replicate files and folders but we can only replicate starting from the folder that you point us to - that is what works as root for us. So you should create the LeftFolder as U:\Music and Right Folder as Y:\. If under U:\Music there are artists/albums that you do not wish to sync, you can use the preview pane and exclude them.
I hope this helps.
Thanks

DeepaDeepa, I believe I did exactly what you specified. My Left Folder is just U:\Music and the Right Folder as Y:\
So I should expect the Right Folder to also have Y:\Music after the backup process.
I have been so curious. What if I had wanted to backup my whole drive to a newly purchased blank drive?
Guess SyncToy won't be the right choice! A drive has a drive letter and many folders and sub-folders and sub-sub-folders etc.
I so wish there is a way I can attach a Print-Screen of my SyncToy window so you see what I exactly did.
Don't know if I am asking too much. Is there an email address I can send you a JPEG image of the SyncToy
window?

My bad - I should have told you that you should have specified U:\Music and Y:\Music. If you do U:\Music and Y:\ - we will replicate all sub-folders under U:\Music (please let me know if you are not seeing this) but we cannot create U:\Music itself because we start seeing files and folders from the root ( not including the root).
If you wanted to backup your whole drive to a newly purchased blank drive - you would have to create the roots of your different drives on the newly purchased drive. So you are right if your old hard-drive looks like
C:\
D:\
G:\
To replicate this exactly on a new drive you HAVE to create
C:\
D:\
G:\
Thanks

From your description and the result from my final backup, it is true SyncToy 2.0 Beta is not a very practical backup tool if one has to back up MOST of the whole drive. Below will be my comments on this software. With only seven folder, I just created the folder names on the Right Folder window and the backup went well.
CONS:
For a home drive with many folders, if one wants to back up about eighty percent of the drive, each folder has to
be manually created on the right folder (destination drive).
During backup, it missed two files that were found during process by my anti-virus application . . . wish I would have the option to “force” backup regardless of background process. In this case I will make sure all I asked were fully done and scan the destination drive later. At the end, you can’t tell what got missed.
PROS:
It’s free!
As in the “CONS” for someone like me with only seven main folders I wanted to backup, I can easily create the folder to the right – that’s it.
For a full-drive to full-drive backup, SyncToy is the best!
Very user friendly!
During backup, the “report” window shows the progress on how many files, folder got done, missed or otherwise.
After setting up the backup folders, in the future, one can choose which pair to run just be checking the corresponding pair folders.
With SyncToy there should be no reason to loose important un-backed up files.
The options, Synchronize, Echo and Contribute are awesome.
Did I mention it is completely free?
CONCLUSION:
I love and WILL highly recommend it.
