Text does not stay selected in "Edit" tab while working on a post. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am using Windows Live Writer (WLW) 14.0.8089.726 en.

Sometimes when attempting to select text in the Edit tab to perform an operation (add hyperlink, delete, add text-decoration), the text will deselect itself as soon as I release the mouse button. if I use the keyboard (arrow keys and shift), the selection will deselect when shift is released.  This seems to happen most often on the bottom most paragraph in the post, though I'm not sure that is always true. There are times when I can select text in one part of the WLW window, and it stays selected, but in a different part of the post the text will not stay selected.

This is very annoying, I often end up posting things as drafts to my blog so I can perform final edits there, or manually writing the HTML I need.

    Details:

My blog is http://cpl-shoe.com running Wordpress 2.9.2 with the Suffusion theme installed.

WLW is set up to post and pull items to/from the blog.

WLW is using the styles from my blog to make the edit page look close to my blog's settings.

I run WLW from two computers (XP Pro 32-bit, and Win7 Home Premium 64-bit), the problem occurs on both computers.

This does not happen when editing HTML in the Source tab.

  • I've had the same problem. Somehow I found it was related to the theme; I think more specifically to the CSS of the theme. I wasn't able to resolve it...

But I guess my first question, was it work fine before and did you add plug-ins to your Wordpress blog recently that might affect the theme or layout?

If so, try removing those and see what happens...

    Hope this helps.

  • I had suspected that the blog's downloaded settings could cause this, but I was hoping to find out it was a known issue with an easy fix.  I'll troubleshoot tonight, and report what I find.

    Thanks for the reply!

  • Well, it's a bit anti-climatic. Before I started writing my post, I went to the Blogs pulldown-->Edit Blog Settings-->Editing tab-->and picked Refresh Theme. It took quite some time to download everything, and then seemed to operate normally afterward. I'll update this if I have the problem again, but you may have been right, just some bad settings.
