quanta cd rom

  I have a quanta cd-rom that windows will not recognize for my laptop- 5years old. I have done all troubleshooting- no help. It works sometimes not often. Using recovery disk I can boot from it. Problem started when I downloade c-media AC97 update from microsoft update.
