How to validate WinPE boot record

What is the best forum to find out how WinPE validates its boot record. I need to repalce it with a custom boot record that will either load and execute the original boot record or load and execute a boot record in a different partition. I have been using this method for a few years with MSDOS but I am upgrading to WinPE and so I need to make WinPE happy about the custom boot record.
