Closing an opportunity changes the created date to the close date

Question

In about 90% of our opportunities when an opportunity is closed it is also updating all the dates fields to the same value as the closing date value. I can't find any similarity between the accounts where it doesn't do this. It all seems kind of random.
Anybody have any idea why it may be doing this?Friday, January 15, 2010 5:52 PM

You'll want to look at the createdon field for the date the Opp was created and the actualclose for the date the Opp is closed.
If you find the dates are the same, then your Sales Team is opening and closing Opps on the same day.

Not sure exactly what dates are getting updated, but the modified on will get updated when a change is made and closing the opportunity is change, actual close will get updated. Opportunities behave very different from Accounts because they serve a different purpose. It is a bit challenging to compare the behavior of one to another.
What other date fields are of concern?

We're trying to look at the length of time an Opportunity goes from Creationg to being closed successfully (won). I've never looked at the before, but from our first closures to now, 90% of the Opportunities have the same Opened date, Estimate Close Date and Actual Close Date.Friday, January 15, 2010 7:40 PM

Is it possible they were imported and closed as part of going live?

Thanks Donna,
That appears to be what is happening. I saved a sample set of Opportunities that were set to close this month, and one week later 10 of the 50 have closed and none of the dates have changed. That would imply that the Sales Teams is opening and closing their Opportunities on the same day.Tuesday, January 26, 2010 2:04 PM -
You're welcome, have a good day.
