freecell game keeps freezing and restarting

  For about two months FreeCell has been freezing during a game, shows the message "FreeCell.exe has stopped working. Windows is looking for a......etc" which I now cancel (after many dozens of futile "Windows looking" messages), then appears the message "FreeCell.exe is restarting" and it does, starting a new game.
  
  I have deleted FreeCell from the games directory, restarted Vista, ran all my security apps plus on-line scanners to verify my system is clean, and finally last week re-installed Vista (to SP2), all to no avail.
  
  My PC is 1yr. old, running Vista SP2, all my apps are up-to-date and freshly installed.
  
  Can anyone help?, please.
  
  p.s. Sorry if this is the wrong place to post such a question, but I've never come across such a confusing forum!
