Why is my Windows 7 Pro product key being blocked by Microsoft????

Question
-
Earlier today everything was fine, I start to get on my computer tonight and in the lower right corner just above the task bar it says Windows 7, build, 7601, This copy of windows is not genuine. I purchased this copy of Windows 7 from the Microsoft Academic website back on May 30,2011. I did a clean install as I was upgrading from Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit. everything has been fine until tonight, what happened???Sunday, September 4, 2011 3:25 AM

I just wanted to update this thread.
There appears to have been an issue with the Product key Activation/Validation servers that only effected a subset of Digitally Distributed Product keys.
This issue has been corrected and user that were affected by this should no longer be seeing a Non-Genuine/Key Blocked error.
If you do still see this error please try the following:
1) Reboot and then re-try Activating and/or Validating.
2) If you still see the issue, please contact Microsoft Assisted Support (at one of the below URLs)

Outside North America:

Contact the Microsoft Academic website where you opened your account. Several users are reporting that the Microsoft Store (whose servers house all the download copies) had a problem this week causing this sort of non-genuine notice. They report that the Microsoft Store is resolving the issue. I assume the Academic website would be your starting point. The fix seems to involve replacing product keys and if so that is far beyond the capability of anyone in these forums.
For analysis of any other possible issue involving the activation status of your key, please observe announcement 1 at the top of this forum page and paste the MGADiag report in your reply as requested in the announcement.

I realize they want to make sure they get their money and that people are not using hacked software but they need a way to resolve problems with customers that have legal copies of their software. this is my school computer and I need this taken care of so I don't loose any of my school work.Sunday, September 4, 2011 11:41 AM

That's why you need to contact the website where you made the purchase and not Microsoft Support. If there is no phone number then you need to use email.

The website did not anticipate this problem. Call them.

Resolved...
Seems this is already a known matter with MS.
Call: 866-530-6364
Explain you're getting the No Longer Genuine message. Rep reported that it seems a lot of keys have been blocked due to them being refunded on MS's side, but not on the user's side. He issued me a new key (he cannot email it or update your account) and I retried the activation and it worked.

Thanks firex726, that took care of my problem also. Had to call twice, long wait. The second time it only took about 10 minutes and the rep. answered and issued me a new product key. Looks like everything is good now. Thanks again.Sunday, September 4, 2011 8:52 PM
