  • Hi Klinzter,

I am assuming that since you lost the recovery DVD, that you installed using a borrowed copy of Windows. (this is ok) The problem is that some OEM Product Keys (found on your CoA) are geared to specific files found in the specific version of XP that came with the computer. Since you didn't reinstall using the repair DVD, you probably do not have the files that it's looking for.

I suggest contacting Sony and seeing if you can get another copy of the repair DVD. Once you repair with that DVD, the Product Key on your CoA should work.

    Hope this helps,

  • Hi Klinzter,

Try following the directions in the "How to replace lost, broken, or missing Microsoft software or hardware" article at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326246/

  • Klinzter,

Sony does sell replacement recovery CDs for many of its models of computers.  Did you try looking up you exact model on their support web site?
