VISTA HOME BASIC ACTIVATION FAILED RRS feed

  • Question

  • i have a genuine vista home basic edition, yet when i activate, it always leads to error code 0xC004E003, i have formated and restored my PC yet it persists, i have tried activating both online & offline, there's no phone option for my country, i am really tired of the whole thing...pls i need an online solution, not by phone or purchasing anything since i bought an authentic vista, i can give you ALL the details you need for my HP 550 notebook in order to resolve this stuff, pls i'm running out of time, remaining just 3 days before that annoying "this version of windows is not genuine" info pops up. thanks.

    Sorry - no change :(
The only thing that you can really do now is contemplate whether to buy a new Retail copy of Windows, or to attempt a reformat/reinstall using the manufacturer's Recovery disks or partition. The latter will usually work, as the install doesn't require the input of a Key (assuming you use the correct disks!), provided that the problem is simply miscommunication between BIOS and OS.
If you opt to purchase a new copy of Windows, only purchase from reputable stores, as auction sites and the like are more likely to sell you counterfeit than real goods. Windows 7 should work on your system - and probably better - but check the HP support pages and make sure that Win7 drivers are available.

  • hi, it didn't work, said "this BIOS is not for your NoteBook PC". i tried that for intel, celeron and even AMD OS, they didn't work, my system is an intel celeron, vista home basic SP1 (i'd tried SP2, but didn't resolve the problem). i want to clarify something, when i click "activate now" in system properties, the 1st error that appears says "the windows vista home basic product key you typed is invalid for activation". it is after i re-type the product key by choosing "type a differenet product key" option that i then receive the (windows activation) error code 0xC004E003. i just finished formating and restoring my PC...again, i decided to perform and post diagnostics to see if it's different now, and if there are other alternatives...

You need to change the Product Key to the one on your COA Sticker - use the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System Properties page.
The OEM_SLP Key in use currently is only valid when used with the proper certificates in the OS, and the proper BIOS SLIC table - which for some reason your PC is unable to match. Changing the Key to the COA_SLP Key should enable normal activation.

The COA Key should be on a sticker on your machine's case - the one which says which version and edition of Windows is installed.

The Key-finder will only find the key is current use - which is the OEM_SLP key.

Try this, and use that key when/if asked....
    If  Licensing Store is corrupt.....

Please try the below steps to recreate the Store files.  This may resolve the issue.

    1) Open an Internet Browser window.
    2) Type: %windir%\system32 into the browser address bar.
    3) Find the file CMD.exe
    4) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select 'Run as Administrator'
    5) Type: net stop slsvc  (it may ask you if you are sure, select yes - don't worry if it tells you the service isn't running anyhow!))
    6) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareLicensing
    7) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    8) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    9) Type: net start slsvc
    10) Type: cscript slmgr.vbs -rilc (It may take a long time for this to complete, please be patient)
    11) Restart your computer twice.
    12) You may be required to enter the Product Key and/or Activate.

     Reboot

Once complete, please post back with a new MGADiag report
