Your Key is from a not-for-resale MSDN account. You need to claim an immediate refund from the vendor - do NOT accept the offer of a new key.(all they are trying to do is to get past the 45-day claims window. or avoid you sending the evidence of their crimes to the authorities)

The pirates have got VERY good at this over the past few years, as the price of equipment for manufacturing the packages drops, and as factories open in less well-policed countries.

  • Yes, you both bought copies from a counterfeiter.  In this line from your report,

    Windows Product ID: 00371-221-4165552-86693

The 221 in your PID is for MSDN Windows 7 Professional.

I don't think Microsoft will offer anyone an OEM version.  OEM versions are licensed to system builders only.  A person who builds his own system is not a "system builder" for licensing purposes.  He is a do-it-yourselfer.  A system builder in terms of the license is someone who fabricates and sells computers to customers.  The correct license for you and your friend is retail and that is what Microsoft uses in the Get Genuine kit.  It will not be an upgrade license.

My suggestion is that unless you have a need for MUI language packs that you use Professional.  Pro will remain in support until 2020 while all other consumer editions, including Ultimate, will go out of support after 2015.

The reason your copies validated was that the product keys were genuine - genuine MSDN.  However they are no longer valid because they are in use by non MSDN subscribers and Microsoft has now detected this and blocked them.  A once valid key has been used in manufacturing counterfeit copies and so is now invalid.

The crooks keep their sales of any one key from being detected too soon by controlling the number they sell.  MSDN keys permit 10 simultaneous activations.  A few more may not trigger Microsoft's attention.  By not getting greedy until they are ready to cash out and move on to a new ID the crooks can stretch out the detection time to many months.  Your copy may already be blocked since it doesn't matter how long you have had it activated.  What matters is how long it took Microsoft to become aware of it being an abused key.

The crooks probably use credit card theft to fund their purchase of subscriptions.  They can harvest hundreds of product keys from one subscription.

  • Ardaco is a friend and neighbour of mine here in the netherlands , he called me about this issue , he bought his windows ultimate 64 on ebay in sep10 and installed it that month , now he has this problem.

I also bought my windows 7 on ebay from a guy with lots of good feedback , i did not buy ultimate but professional in november10 , but did not install it untill march2011 , and it validated perfectly but that was also the case with ardaco's version , am i going to get the same problem after a few months? I mean would ardaco also have gotten a positive from you if he asked this same question in september2010 when he validated normally , i mean can it change any minute , if you say now positive - meaning i have a good procuct id - what does that say about the future and why has it changed with ardeco .... maybe after an ebay selling spree with al the same product-ids all trying to validate?

When i bought this dvd , i had to give the ebay seller a positive or negative feedback within 30-45days , i did not want to install yet but went to the microsoft genuine site and came here http://www.microsoft.com/howtotell/default.aspx?displaylang=en everything looked ok so i gave him a good feedback and let the point of no return - paypal refund - pass with confidence.

Also because ardecos version looked (only difference ultimate and professional) the same as mine and his version validated perfectly made me feel all good and dandy about our windows 7's.

But that microsoft site is not good , that youtube movie you just gave said something very importent ... something the microsoft site did niot tell , when you go to the edge of the Wavy Edge Perimeter on top of the dvd around the edge he feels with his finger an edge on the fake version i feel that to but is not mentioned on the microsoft site .... it only mentions stickers but my version has an edge i can feel but i cant get it loose from the dvd maybe with a sharp knife but it just feels that is is rock solid on the dvd , if i would have felt that edge .... and would have known that was a solid red flag ....,  i would have made a complaint and gotten my money back from paypal.

And then there is the issue of validation ,  can't microsoft send a popup when you validate , and in the popup it says how many times this retailversion key has been used before. If it really is a brand new version the popup would have to say first time validated.

Ardaco and i feel that we have done nothing wrong , - ebaysellers with about 99% goedd feedback , and also many feedback ... so no first timers

                                                                              - he validated

                                                                              - and accordig the microsift link from above everything looked original and solid , but now we are f....d both from a different seller

P.s. he has gotten an offer from micrisoft after genuine failing , he could choose ultimate or professional or home premium version off 7   what versions are that? oem's ... upgrades ..... retail versions or are they something else the site only says "get online genuine kit"

Here is my MGADiag.exe report , fingers crossed ..... dvd has an wave i can feel but so far my windows validated so who knows.
