IE8 v Mesh RRS feed

  • Question

  • Does mesh have known issues with ie 8? My mesh desktop has been working perfectly, no errors. I upgraded to ie 8 on bace pc. Now when I sign onto my mesh desktop, IE works fine while I am using the mesh desktop. But when I close the mesh desktop, IE crashes. This has happened twice.

  • Hi Diana, we have some issues where we expose some problems with IE8, if you can please send us the Live Mesh logs.  We collect information about the IE issue in ours and can contact the IE8 team to have them look at the bug.

You can send us logs via feedback on our Connect site:  http://connect.microsoft.com/livemesh

  • That's hard to say, Diana, which is why the logs in the bug report will be helpful for the Live Mesh team to identify what may have happened.
I've not seen the problem, nor are they any known problems listed for Live Mesh with IE8 that I'm aware of.

  • These posts are from different threads. Is it possible that they are related to what is happening here. They are from 2 different pc's, both using ie8 and mesh.

I like mesh. It is nicely designed and is user friendly. Installed fine, and have had no errors with my mesh. But, I did experiance an issue with my network. After installing mesh, my network crashed. I lost connection from the pc to the router, and the router lost connection to the internet. I restarted my pc, repaired my connection, and it is fine now.My question is: is this a known issue with mesh, or was it an issolated insodent. Normally I have no problems with my network.

This sounds like a really bad coincidence - or more likely a really overprotective firewall! Since Live Mesh doesn't really communicate with your router or do anything funky with your machine's network connections (at least, not that I know of) the likely cause is that somewhere along the line something detected an illegal packet and decided to shut you down. Possibly also shutting down your router - it's extremely unlikely - but it just sounds like you had some bad luck!

Second, First time this has happened. On my desktop, I tryed to open a folder. Windows explorer froze. I opened task manager, and it showed 2 users on my desktop. In services,in mesh service, under properties, I have it set to interact with the desktop, so that may explain that. I couldnot close the desktop, I had to shutdown with tower button. When windows logged back on. an error message appeared, I managed to get back on the desktop, and everything was fine. mY question is could mesh have anything to do with this?

  • Hi,

    Update:

I am still having the problem with ie8 and mesh. I have posted a question about the ie 8 problem after accessing the website, in a partner support community forum to see if they can find a solution to the issue. I am still not sure if it is a mesh issue or an ie8 issue, so i figured it might help

  • Hi All,

I have just verified that it was mesh crashing and not the ie8. The message that was displayed in my explorer was a new recovery feature in ie8. When a website crashes, IE8 is able to recover the last session in the browser. It is a part of the new enhansements in IE8. When I closed the mesh desktop it crashed. I didn't realize it crashed, but IE8 did. The solution from partner support is posted in the mesh folder on live Skydive, and also a copy of the solution is on the mesh bug report on connect.

  • Hi Steve,

Your Welcome. I believe the insodent copied below is definatly related to this issue. It appears that mesh is misbehaving. Quick question. Would it make a differance if I uninstalled mesh and then re-installed it?

Second, First time this has happened. On my desktop, I tryed to open a folder. Windows explorer froze. I opened task manager, and it showed 2 users on my desktop. In services,in mesh service, under properties, I have it set to interact with the desktop, so that may explain that. I couldnot close the desktop, I had to shutdown with tower button. A hard lockup in Explorer is often due to misbehaving shell add-ins. Since Live Mesh is a shell add-in, it is certainly possible that Live Mesh was also a contributing factor in your crash/lock-up.

It may be worth filing a bug on both issues, especially if you see it again, and perhaps the Live Mesh team will spot something in your logs.
