CRM sporadically unable to connect to SQL Server? RRS feed

  • I've seen similar posts but none of those were sporadic in nature as ours, and so the solutions provided have not helped us out.

    Our on-premise Dynamics CRM 4.0 implementation has a tab on the Contact record with an iFrame into another one of our systems. This was built years ago and works fine for the most part. However, lately we’ve occasionally been getting errors in the iFrame: these are fixed by simply refreshing the screen (F5) and the information resolves.

    CRM logs this on the app server in these instances:

    Exception type: SqlException
    Exception message: Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL Server [5]

    Any idea as to what's suddenly causing this and why it's only a sporadic issue? Btw we're on UR 17 and SQL Server 2008 R2.
