Possible to modify CHANGE_RETENTION without having to turn CHANGE_TRACKING off for database? RRS feed

  • Question

  • SQL Server 2008: Is it possible to modify CHANGE_RETENTION from default of 2 DAYS to 21 DAYS without having to turn CHANGE_TRACKING off for database (which as you know means turning it off for each table first)?

Answers

  • you can change it using SQL Management Studio->Database Properties->Change Tracking

    or

    ALTER DATABASE  <Your DB name here> SET CHANGE_TRACKING (CHANGE_RETENTION = <New retention period here>)

    e.g.,

    ALTER DATABASE  MyDB SET CHANGE_TRACKING (CHANGE_RETENTION = 21 days)
