Win 7 WGA Problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • Two of my puters running Win 7 Ultimate started reporting they were not genuine Tuesday (4-20 10) so I have run your tool and am needing someone to tell me if its my key or somthing else. Ill send one report at a time.Diagnostic Report (1.9.0027.0):  I have added second diag report below the first for the other comp.

I also added a third to the end of #2 (All of these were retail packages that looked genuine, 32 and 64 bit discs manual and compleatly sealed ) looked just like others I have seen on other posts pics)

  • Confirmed.

I have checked the keys and they are both blocked MSDN keys. As others have recommended, return the software/key to the seller for a full refund.

In addition, can you tell us the url of the auction or website the software/key was purchased from?

    Thank you,

    Darin MS

  • You are using a block msdn key 00426-066-9435266-86116 and
    00426-066-9435473-86753
If you got this from ebay get your money back please read the sticky that is posted

  • Hello Dadmon3,

The middle part of the PID 066 indicates that your product keys are within the range that is typically issued to MSDN subscribers.  There have been incidents where such MSDN subscriber keys have "gotten loose" as individual keys being sold thru non-Microsoft channels (like eBay and similar), and there have been reports that software counterfeiters have been using these same pirated keys in genuine-looking retail packages for Windows 7.

The Microsoft moderator, Darin Smith, has been checking product keys for posters in your situation, so come Monday morning when he comes back to work, he will see this thread and hopefully will be able to give you the definitive information on the validity of your product keys.

  • Yup, free range keys. File your claim now, and make sure all of your communication with the seller goes through the arbitration channel so there is a record. AND DON"T accept replacements, demand your money back.

  • Confirmed.

I have checked the keys and they are both blocked MSDN keys. As others have recommended, return the software/key to the seller for a full refund.

In addition, can you tell us the url of the auction or website the software/key was purchased from?

    Thank you,

    Darin MS

  • Thank you for your time . I purchased these from a friend who purchased several of these and had some extra. I will try to find out through him where they came from, but I dont know if he will tell me or not. He has told me he will make it right with me, but if I were him I might be a little nervous . I did send a third report could you please check it also  ( I feel I already know the answer though)
    Monday, April 26, 2010 7:02 PM
  • Hi Dadmon3,

Sorry, I didn't notice the third report, but yes, it is also a Blocked MSDN key.

We are interest in the source of the bad keys, so any information your friend can provide as to where he bought those keys would be helpful.  I do caution your friend from reselling these keys, now that he knows they are Non-genuine and if at all possible, he should return the software/keys, to the place of purchase, for a full refund.

    Thank you,

    Darin MS

  • Welllllll the key used on report # 2(above)is now activated and has been working for about a week now.so I am now feeling a little unshure of having a ligit argument with the seller ( I reluctantly told my friend, he is still going back and forth with seller on my other two keys but also now has doubts as the ones he has used are also working well)

I guess what I am wanting to know is how positive are you that these keys are bogus and could a hardware change of a cpu vid card and ram cause this problem(about three weeks before the problem first arose on my sons comp, report #1 above )

The other bad key report (#3) (same set up that originally would not athenticate with key # 2 and now does) came from a motherboard that  had a bad pci-e slot and came from another comp that has had no problems  (replaced with same type board changed cpu ram and vid card and have had no problem whatsoever with WGA) My question here is  ...( does WGA use the motherbord serial or just the type?)

That's irrelevant to your problem - it's the actual li cense key that is
Blocked - not the computer - so you you put it on any compatible computer in
the world and get the same results from the WGA system

  • yaaa yaaaa My thinking got a little backwards, but its still an interesting hardware changing question.

I guess I was thinking about hardware attached to one key showing up with another key( I dont think Microsoft would mind 2 keys for one puter though).but it was a

secondary question. my real question was about the formerly blocked key that now isnt blocked.

    Duh?
    <rereads thread>
Your first post had three MSDN keys, one of which showed as 'genuine' (but
probably consigned eventually to the same fate as the others)
It's never been tagged as invalid AFAICT, but Darin said that all three keys
were now blocked, so you can expect it to 'blow up' on the next refresh of
    the WGA system

100% bogus.  Ultimate keys with CID 065-067 are not legally resalable/transferrable under any circumstances.

Agreed, if you do not have the accompanying license agreement from a technet or MSDN account the key is or will be blacklisted. Considering your problems and Darin's response I would say it is 112.9% probable that your key is blacklisted, but that is just an estimate.

Definitely an MSDN-type license - and definitely 'valid' (at least for the
    time being).

Maybe just a temporary glitch in the system - maybe Darin can double-check
    the Key??

It's part of the contract when you purchase a TechNet or MSDN (or other of
the same type) subscription that the licenses you receive as part of the
service are NOT FOR RESALE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES and not for use in
'Production' systems - solely for testing and development purposes.
Therefore ANY license with a MSDN-type key, which has been bought, is by
    definition not a legal license.

Have it your way - but I wouldn't place money on your key being valid for
