CRM 4.0 Email router versus Outlook RRS feed

  • Hi there,

    We are using CRM 4.0 with 2003 exchange server for emails.

    In regards to incoming and outgoing emails, what is the difference between using the email router to that of using Outlook? What are the advantages and disadvantages of using these two options?

  • Hi Shayne, the E-mail Router is designed for scenarios where the Outlook client isn't approriate. For example:

    • Processing emails arriving at a generic mailbox (e.g. help@comany.com) rather than being sent to specific user
    • Delivering emails sent by CRM users who don't use CRM for Outlook (or users who use CRM for Outlook but need to process CRM emails when Outlook isn't open).

    The CRM E-mail Router can be fiddly to install, configure and maintain. It makes some Exchange admins nervous but it doesn't need to be installed on an Exchange server (any computer, even a Windows PC) with access to the email server is fine.
