Lost my WinXP OEM CD RRS feed

  • Question

  • So I have an acer travelmate 290 laptop which has a license for windows xp professional as i understand it because it has the sticker on the bottom of the case, the problem is i lost the OEM windows xp profession install CD

Now i also have a dell computer where i have the windows xp prefessional cd and i was under the impression that it was Legal to install windows with the cd but use my acer laptops windows license key.

So i installed windows and when i click on the activate windows icon and put my acer license key in it says its the wrong key when i know it is right.

So what do i do to activate my windows installtion?

  • You cannot install and activate your Windows XP installation if you used a Dell Windows XP Reinstallation disc to install on an Acer computer.  You'll have to contact Acer and order the appropriate Windows XP Recovery disc, then refomat your hard drive and install Windows XP using the Acer Recovery disc.
