How to migrate from Dynamics CRM 4 to CRM online?

Question
-
Hello.
My customer works with CRM 4.0 and wants to migrate data to CRM online. CRM 4.0 is under SaaS agreement with external ASP.
I have been told that the only wayn to migrate is copying each individual table, pasting them into the online system and link them afterwards.
However I have seen in this forum that with data migration it is possible to automatically map my data in CRM 4.0 to online.
Can anyone switch on lights on this and what do I specificaly need to ask the ASP to do the migration?

Whoever told you that you could copy tables and pasting them into CRM Online is incorrect.
The only way to get a CRM On Premise data into CRM Online is to import it into CRM Online using the built-in import tool or a third party tool. If you you use the built in data import tool the source files will need to be CSV format, it you use a third party tool some of them will let you connect directly to the CRM SQL Database as the source. There is no one click process.
However, you will need to convert your CRM 4 customizations into a CRM 2011 format and then use that to upgrade CRM Online first to be able to accept your data.
