New Hard Drive Installed, now Windows Vista 32 bit is not genuine. HELP PLEASE! RRS feed

  • Question

  • Since getting a new hard drive installed, Windows Vista is "not genuine" even though I used the code right on my Dell Studio 1551 laptop.  Please let me know what other information is needed to repair.  I am not extremely tech savvy, so please keep it simple for me:).  Thank you for helping me, I am very frustrated!

  •
Where did you get the Vista OEM disk from that you used to install using your product key?

If you created the factory restore media when you got the computer that one would not require you to enter the product key when rebuilding the computer's hard drive.

I would suspect that your key is not for the same version of Vista.
