CWA and dynamically assigned port RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am planning the design for a CWA deployment and I noticed that I had to provide the following firewall requirement:

    1025 - 65,535

Dynamically assigned for incoming traffic from Office Communication Server 2007 Server

Now I don't really understand why there is a need to have a specific incomming port defined on the CWA server knowing that we already have a SIP port listening on the CWA and there is no media traffic available for the CWA client.

In addition if we can't work around this requirement is there a way to FIX this port just like we can do with many other services ?

    Sincerely,

    Tonino Bruno

  • Hi Tonino,

That is why that Microsoft insists that you install the CWA in the LAN and not in the perimeter

Use a reverse proxy to publish your CWA server

These ports are required for RPC and the CWA server acts just like a client that dynamically allocates a port to communicate with server

You can fix ports on communicator but not sure this would work for CWA, I doubt it
