Installing Samsung AllShare on Home Server

Question
-
Hello,
I have purchased a Samsung TV that has the AllShare feature.
I can access the media files from my home server but can't play them.
I have been told by Samsung that I have to install the AllShare software on my server but I don't know how to do it. In fact, I don't know how to install any third party software on my server ;-)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

If you're using Windows Home Server 2011, there should be no need to install the Samsung application, as your server is already DLNA compliant. If you're using V1, you should be able to install the software using a remote desktop connection to your server; log in using the administrator user and the server console password. Note the warning that displays when you log in this way; there are tools on the desktop which can severely damage server functionality.
In either case, you should first check and make sure that your media are in formats that both the server and your television support. And if you need to install the Samsung tool on your server, you'll need to go to Samsung for support for it, of course.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)Friday, November 25, 2011 3:55 PMModerator -
Thanks a lot for your reply.
I have an Acer Aspire Easystore H340 that I bought last year, Not sure how to find the Windows version...
When I copy the files on a USB and plug on the Samsung TV I can play them, no problem. When trying to play them directly from the server, I can't, I get that "Not supported file format" message. I have been told to install the AllShare software on the server. The people at Samsung gave me the file called PC Serve Manager but they don't offer me the support for server installation...
Also I don't know how to setup and use a remote desktop connection. Do you think I should also install the Windows Media Center Connector?
Thanks again.

Hi,
I recently bought a Samsung Smart TV as well.
Some facts...
1) attaching a USB or external HDD direct to the TV USB ports plays all HD and SD video I threw at it.
2) I have found accessing say a NAS drive that's DLNA certified from your TV will only play non 1080i and even fails to play some 720p files, though most non true HD video will play.
3) to play all files from remote locations requires a PC with Allshare. It is obvious Samsung have restricted this for some reason, they wont tell me. I have asked and hoped the next firmware would fix it. They simply reply with, use Allshare.
4) As for Home Server 2011, I'm just about to try install Allshare this weekend (if It lets me) and give it a shot. Has anyone else out there had success?
Can all Samsung DLNA Smart TV users hammer Samsung for a fix. The TV is capable of playing 1080 media via the LAN port & USB, they simply enforce you to use their Allshare software or USB. That limits your options for DLNA devices.
I would like to use my Buffalo DLNA NAS for all resolution media as well as the Home Server for streaming.
Cross fingers.

Thank you for your input. I am in exactly the same seat.
I purchased the Samsung UE40D6517 Smart LED-TV and am trying to play video content from my NAS (HP data vault x311 running windows home server). I will try to install the all-share server or perhaps an alternative DLNA-player such as tvmobili.com (any thoughts on that one?) on my WHS.
It would be great to not have to use an external media player since I am hanging it up on the wall and would feel it a pity to mess up the clean look of the screen only.
Can anyone let me know of a suitable venue for complaints?

No news?
I´m also considering building my own NAS (Based on Home Server) and want to be able to stream to my Samsung UE32D6507Tuesday, January 10, 2012 6:12 PM -
I'm streaming fine to a Samsung. Use remote desktop on a computer to connect to the Home Server. Log in as adminstrator, go to the desktop and start internet explorer. Go to the Samsung website and download Allshare and install. You will need to manually select the folder that you want it to share. Just point it to your existing video's folder. It's successfully streamed everything that I've tried without an issue. About the only complaint that i have is that you can't fast-forward the videos. It allows you to skip forward 10 seconds at a time, but not FF like other server software. I've also installed Tversity on the Home Server, and it plays well will with the Samsung also and allows FF and REW.

Hi there,
animaloc 's question / threadtitle was:
Installing Samsung AllShare on Home Server ?

My Answer: NO good idea
i bought 2 years ago a Samsung TV (Type: UE40C6700) and was playin around with the streaming abilities of my Acer easystore H340 (which was runnin on WHSv1 until Dec. 2k11). But no matter which OS would be runnin on my cute "blackbox" i was experiencing the same results as @RasmusT (and also the streaming capabilities when i was tryin to stream by notebook via win7 media services).
btw @drodge: What type of files are you streaming ? Which Samsung device is your renderer ? Everything fine with AllShare and TVersity ? My results on both were: UNUSEABLE
That AllShare thing i wasn't spending much time on it. This is typically how Samsung mention the word "support" for their products some people are constantly relying on ;-) That's why there isn't a well working channel list editor till today (officialy by Samsung ; 4 more info don't bother 2 ask). However guys i was spending a few days of that christmas holiday parsing around the web for some tiny little piece of software for getting things to work how i like it.
Guess what ?...
I found a open source software called "serviio" which fits all my needs and don't burns down the "atom" cpu while serving me a 1080p stream, it queries 4 metadata trough your videobase. This is not a Samsung only solution, that was a very important checkpoint as it should not be just an quick 'n dirty solution. Even Sony UK recommends it for the Xbox360 (that's quite funny because some pc-magazines here in germany recommends sony's own streaming server 4 the xbox as universal dlna media server ;-) )and it is regulary coming new releases with new device profiles like 4 my new baby the Western Digital TV Live Wireless client 4 gettin all my stuff also trough the non dlna supportin old Orion-lcd-tv in bedroom
Here is the supported media renderer list from the features page
- Samsung TVs and Bluray players (supports additional features, e.g. subtitles)
- Sony TVs and Bluray players
- Panasonic TVs
- Playstation 3
- Xbox 360
- LG TVs and Bluray players
- Toshiba TVs
- Sharp TVs
- Philips TVs
- WDTV Live (supports subtitles)
- Oppo BDP-83
- MusicPal
- DirecTV DVR
- Pure Flow deices
- Android phones, iOS phones
- ... and many more
And these media files are supported (by the server input and may be transcoded streamable by the device profile set in serviioo console):
- Audio: MP3( .mp3), Windows Media Audio (.wma), AAC (.m4a), OGG (.ogg, .oga), FLAC (.flac)
- Video: MPEG-1 (.mpg, .mpeg), MPEG-2 PS (.mpg, .mpeg, vob, mod), MPEG-2 TS (.ts, .m2ts), MPEG-4 (.mp4, m4v, mov), AVI (.avi, .divx), Windows Media Video (.wmv, .asf), Matroska (.mkv), Flash (.flv, .f4v), DVR-MS (.dvr, .dvr-ms), WTV (.wtv), OGG (.ogv, .ogm), 3GP (.3gp)
- Image: JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg), GIF (.gif), PNG (.png)
But easily just try for yourself: http://www.serviio.org
And there is more by community users:
If you using a Windows Home Server there is finally a Add-In for Serviio for the WHServer Console (so no need 4 RDP'ing if the console is mainly preferred admin interface. And also you find the Add-In for WHS2011 Vail in the download section NOT THE .MSI FOR WHS2011
So i hope this will make you finally say: I got served
But if you still don't know how to install 3rd party software (or simply say have problems accessing the desktop of your homeserver try to install the "Advanced Admin Console" (only WHS v1) to get able to start the Serviio Installation by calling the setup.exe
Sorry for my probably bad spelling. But i am planning to visit USA in April or May for sightseeing and maybe some casual buisness (many ideas, but venture capital is still a loanword here in germany). Hopefully after that (my first USA trip) few weeks with english in daily use the grammar also gets better ;-)

Like most people here, I had the same problem getting a Samsung TV to play videos - I kept getting "Not supported file format" using the stock Media Server in WHS. I then came across an alternative server called whsUpnp360, but that also didn't work.
It turned out that the Samsung TV was adding the getcontentFeatures.dlna.org header when requesting content. If the server failed to respond with contentFeatures.dlna.org, then the error would occur. Changing the code to add that response fixed the problem.

OK, I'm new here and not IT / PC savvy, so please bear with me.
I've been looking for a Media program for a while. I've tried using the Allshare that came with the Samsung TV's, then I tried TVMobili, following the above advice I've now installed Serviio.
I'm semi-retired living in Thailand. I have 3 Samsung LED TV's in my condo conected to a LAN. Also on the LAN I have a PC which I use for a variety of purposes, predominantly work related. Additionally there is an HP Proliant Micro-Server on the LAN, which is fitted with an O/S drive and 4 H-Drives ( 2 TB each ) for media storage. I access the Sever from the PC to instigate Torrent downloads etc, which the Server then manages. All good so far.
My issue is that I don't seem to be able to find a Media program that can effectively access all the stored films / TV pepisodes etc. stored on my Server drives. Seriio can "see" all the drives ( c, w, x, y & z ). Serviio can see, for instance, the folder "NCIS", which contains sub-folders "Season 1", Season 2" etc. these in turn contain sub-sub-folders each containing an individual episode. Serviio cannot see the sub-folders or sub-sub-folders.
I have had similar issues with Allshare and TVMobilli, so I am starting to wonder if the problem is related to the way I have arranged the folders. Could the issue that Mark Guinness refers to be the issue ? If so, in laymens terms, please, how do I instigate the solution ??
Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated, please.

I had the same problem. the only version of allshare that works for me is Ver. 2.1.0.11072_11. no gaurentees.
Installing on a server you have to have administrators access. install is the same as any other install.
