Windows 7 says this copy is not genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've had my PC since Nov 2012, I activated Windows way back then. Somewhat recently had a blue screen and then I received a pop up that told me my copy of Windows is not genuine. When I used Activate Windows in the Start Menu it said Windows is Activated. Followed the steps found on this page
And it made the problem worse now my background is black and it has a message in the bottom right as well
When it used the shell command "cscript c:\windows\system32\slmgr.vbs /ato"
It returns the Error 0x8007232B DNS name does not exist.

  • Microsoft no longer supports Windows 7. Time to purchase a new PC that comes with Windows 10 preinstalled.

  • Ignore Carey, please - and apologies for the log-delayed response!

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool

(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )

     Once saved, run the tool.

Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.

To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.x

      - in your own thread, please

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!
