Can we insert templates into other template RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear All,

Just a quick question, our client wants to have a project template which contains other templates like sub projects. Is it possible and if not what could be a better work arround?

    Thanks

  • Hi Adil

Sorry for misunderstanding but a master template as per your requirement would be the template but the sub projects inserted would be projects rather than template, which essentially serves the purpose, so when you open a master plan template, it would contain reference to actual sub projects and when done as Save As would do an actual save,

The only problem i see would be hiding those sub projects from appearing onto reports

Let me know if this works

  • Hi Sunil,

Which means its not possible to have a master template with inserted templates. In my opinion to fulfill clients need we can just create templates for subprojects only and when they need it, they will create individual projects out of those templates and then create a new master project by inserting those created projects.

  • Assuming you are talking of 2010 version, a Template can contain a sub project but make sure that particular sub project which has been inserted is template is available on the server

  • Yes I am talking about 2010. Can you please elaborate how I can add a template in a template because using insert SubProject button in MS Project only shows real projects from the project server.

    Thanks
