Load Balance in Office Communications Server 2007 R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • May I know is there only one way to perform a load balancing for multi Fonrt-End Servers by using a hardware load balancer? And what is the use of "Director" in OCS? can it become the load balance role? Thank you very much !!!

  • The role of the Director is to offload user authentication from the Front-End servers and to route traffic to the appropriate user pool (when running multiple pools).  If you wish to load balance multiple Directors they must also be positioned behind a Hardware Load Balancer, and in front of the FE servers (which have their own HLB virtual IP).  In reality they are not used very often except in large distributed environment due to the requirement of additional hardware.
